Mint Tek was delighted to attend the recent DigiSport event hosted by Atlantic Technological University (ATU) on 7 May 2026, where industry, research, and commercial organisations came together to explore the rapidly evolving sports technology landscape in Ireland.
The event clearly demonstrated Ireland’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in sports technology, supported by strong backing from Enterprise Ireland.
We had the opportunity to speak with Darren Schmidt from Enterprise Ireland, who later reinforced this message during his talk, outlining a clear national focus on developing Ireland’s sports tech sector.
Ireland’s Ambition in Sports Tech
Enterprise Ireland is actively supporting the development of Ireland as a centre of excellence for sports technology. This includes enabling greater collaboration between SMEs, research bodies, and international partners, as well as supporting innovation across areas such as:
- Performance monitoring and athlete analytics
- Wearable technologies
- Data-driven coaching and insights
- Injury prevention and rehabilitation
- Digital platforms and fan engagement
For Irish SMEs, this presents a significant opportunity to engage with a sector that is both innovative and commercially expanding. The sports industry is increasingly intersecting with areas such as electronics, data, and engineering—creating valuable entry points for companies with technical expertise.
Where Mint Tek Fits In
At Mint Tek, we see strong alignment between our capabilities and the needs of the sports tech sector. Our experience in hardware development, electronics, and rapid prototyping positions us well to support companies working on next-generation sports technologies.
Whether it is enabling new sensing capabilities, supporting wearable device development, or helping to bring early-stage concepts to functional prototypes, our role is to help businesses move quickly from idea to implementation.
As sports technology continues to advance, reliability, precision, and rapid iteration will be key and these are areas where strong engineering support makes a real difference.
Building Connections in a Growing Ecosystem
One of the most valuable aspects of the DigiSport event was the opportunity to engage directly with a wide range of organisations already active in this space. It was encouraging to see the level of innovation underway and the openness to collaboration across disciplines.
We had the chance to meet many interesting and forward-thinking individuals and organisations involved in sports technology, from researchers and startups to established industry players. These conversations reinforced the strength and momentum of the Irish sports tech ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
The message from ATU and Enterprise Ireland is clear: the sports technology sector in Ireland is growing, collaborative, and open to new entrants.
For companies with strong technical capabilities, this represents a valuable opportunity to diversify, innovate, and contribute to an expanding global market.
At Mint Tek, we are very interested in supporting projects in this area and continuing to build relationships within the sports tech community. We look forward to exploring further opportunities to collaborate and contribute to the next generation of innovation in this space.
