We have organized the following article by date to clearly illustrate the progression of the project. Thank you for your interest!
23 January 2025 – Early Designs
The journey of innovation is often marked by iterations, learning, and pursuit of perfection. This has been the case for Trident Trio, the winners of the STEMblem Transition Year Competition. Their project, a drink coaster with a difference, along with their professional presentation, stood out to the judges, earning them first place and leading to the development of their product with Mint Tek Circuits.
Here is the product development process so far…
Design 1
In Design 1, the team experimented with slow-flashing-coloured LEDs, which added a vibrant touch to the coaster. While this initial design was promising, the team felt that something was missing.
Design 2
For Design 2, we incorporated the slow-flashing-coloured LEDs and strategically placed windows in the top of the coaster. This allows light to pass through the glass, creating a visually striking effect.

Since the last update, Trident Trio still has some remaining stock of their award-winning drink coasters. Most of these have been placed in local shop stalls, where they continue to attract interest.
The coasters have primarily been sold to friends, family members, and customers who visited the local shop stalls. Initial feedback has been positive, with many appreciating the unique design and functionality of the coasters.
“We’ve really enjoyed working with Mint Tek throughout this project. It’s been a fantastic learning opportunity for us, and we’re very satisfied with the experience”, positive words from Alan Haugh, Sales and Connections of team Trident Trio.
